Jeanette Gunnarsson

Jeanette Gunnarsson

Biography

My name is Jeanette Gunnarsson. I was born in 1963 in Härnösand. I live in a little village in Älandsbro, just outside Härnösand. Härnösand is located at the beginning of The High Coast which is on the UNESCO World Heritage. I love to paint and could do it all day long. It gives me a warm and comfortable feeling in my body to be painting. I use acrylic painting. I have taken the basic course in Vedic Art and I felt that this way of painting suited me perfectly. For me - going to this course made me realize that everyone can paint. Everyone! There is no right or wrong. My painting is intuitive, I never decide what I should paint – it is the canvas itself that tells me what it should be and that is very interesting and exciting. Every done painting comes as a surprise for me. Most often it will be figurative but occasionally there will also be abstract artworks.

Artist Statement

I want people to feel joy and happiness when they look at my art.

What first prompted you to think of becoming an artist?

It´s not until recently that I have found the time to paint more. This is what  I want to do. I also believe that everyone is an artist in their own way. Everyone who is creative and creates things are an artist.

What kind of an artist do you ultimately see yourself?

A visitor to one of my exhibitions said that my paintings are - “be happy paintings.”  So in other words, I see myself as an artist who wants to make other people happy

What are you hoping to communicate to the viewer through your work?

I want that the observer of my art will feel joy and happiness. I want them to feel happy - it´s simple like that

Can you explain the process of creating your work?

I do not have a plan when I start a new painting. I paint intuitively.

I add color, remove color and maybe I add more color. I spray water and see what happens.

I turn and twist the painting to feel which direction of the painting feels right. I have to feel it talking to me. Then I start from there and take out what the canvas wants to convey. I'm just doing what the canvas wants me to do.  I don´t decide anything.

What is your favorite part of the creative process?

When I enter a flow where time and space cease to exist and I wake up a while later and discover everything that has emerged in the meantime. If I also feel that it tingles in my body and I start dancing and singing - then I know that I have achieved something really good. When I get the same nice feeling in my body as after a yoga session then I am satisfied.

Can you give us an insight into current projects and inspiration, or what we can look forward to from you in the near future?

I have a current exhibition in my town right now. In May, I will have an exhibition in  Sundsvall ( the nearest town to my hometown) and in July I will have an exhibition in Nordingrå on The High Coast which is on the UNESCO World Heritage Site. I plan to have an exhibition in Stockholm as well.
