Biography

Samantha Louise Emery is a contemporary multimedia artist born in England, based in Turkey and embarks on creative interludes in Canada. The trinity of inhabiting these countries has encouraged Emery’s exploration of humanity’s complex interconnection within the biodiversity of Life. The artist atlases these networks visually through her conceptual abstract paintings and her distinctive practice of blending photography, photoshop, hand and machine embroidery, and paintwork onto giclée printed canvas. Central to her practice is a visual activism representing the positive powers of Women where the artist acts as a conduit in channelling the multiple feminine layers into her artworks. Emery illustrates these influences through large scale portraiture in her IKONA project dedicated to women who inspire her journey as a female creative. Her artistic documentation encourages her own journey of self reflection, ultimately leading to her signature style infused self portraiture. The variety of media Emery utilises play crucial roles in representing the profound layers within the Self. The artist’s primary visual activism is to encourage an appreciation of the significant achievements and qualities within Women. Additionally, she views her powerful artworks as a call to action in consciously contributing to our global society and our Mother Earth. Therefore, Emery donates ten percent of proceeds generated from her IKONA collections to a variety of charities worldwide.
