Max Werner

Biography

Born in Ghent, Belgium. Studied Fine Art in London at the Byam Shaw School of Art, and Slade School of Art, UCL where he later taught etching, until he moved to Argentina, then the USA where he now lives and works.
Max's work has been commissioned and purchased by many institutions and private collectors in Europe, North and South America, and Japan.

What first prompted you to think of becoming an artist?

I have been drawing since I was a child, so there never was any question of not  becoming an artist! I was just born that way.

What kind of an artist do you ultimately see yourself?

Just an honest one, without any pretension.

What are you hoping to communicate to the viewer through your work?

I don't really think of it that way.I just have an urge to make pictures. But it is a wonderful feeling when people love your work enough to want to buy it.

Can you explain the process of creating your work?

Not really. It is all based on ideas triggered by observation, thoughts? Dreams ?... I find it is very difficult to explain.

What is your favourite part of the creative process?

Finishing a successful piece of work.

Can you give us an insight into current projects and inspiration, or what we can look forward to from you in the near future?

I don't really know, to tell you the truth. I have many ideas I am working on right now... So more of the same I guess?...
