Artist Statement

This art series seeks to share the big opportunity that exists on understanding that a heart full of ego when it breaks into pieces, it opens a window for light to fill it in order to know that only the Light of the Creator can help us change it. It means not being depressed or wrathful when we see our selfishness. It means feeling broken on the one hand, yet happy and certain that the Light will help us take care of problems on our broken heart opportunities.
I am enclosing six artworks which represent the variation of a broken heart.

What first prompted you to think of becoming an artist?

Becoming an artist is a life-lasting condition. Since I was a child, I was curious and insightful about all things around me. Observing, listening, imagining, dreaming, processing, making, experimenting. Maybe my first approach into the art world had to do with images and photography. I knew that it was something I wanted to do, to communicate, to portray not only images, but ideas, to experiment in order to reach a result that could be understood by anyone. I think that an artist work never ends. I am always searching and researching, studying, portraying symbolic images that could apply to any human being in the world without making any difference. Anything from human senses and feelings is part of my work as an artist. Techniques, found objects, ideas and investigations are always found throughout my journey into the Art world.

What kind of artist do you ultimately see yourself?

I see myself as an artist that communicates any kind of message or observation which can relate to anyone and be interpreted by others.

What are you hoping to communicate to the viewer through your work?

My work has always be in a strong relationship with social and human matters that can affect or interest anybody. I see us as one, as human beings. Life has its ups and downs, but there is always light, no matter how dark it may appear. I am “an impressionist” if you see it this way: there is no black in anything. Just light and darkness. But in the end, light always prevails.

Can you explain the process of creating your work?

I started as a photographer and immediately moved into an experiment with other techniques: chemical transfers, intervention, paint, found objects, collage, mixed media. Usually, I appeal to all of them at once during the process; sometimes, one over the others.

What is your favorite part of the creative process?

I believe in investigating and searching as a first step during the process. My final artworks are always the result of something carefully studied conceptually speaking. Ideas arise, and then the making starts. I enjoy the whole process. Also, to see the reaction of the viewers of my work, the highest point of my final work.

Can you give us an insight into current projects and inspiration, or what we can look forward to from you in the near future?

I have been involved in many projects in my life as an artist; currently, I am working on a project that I called “variations of a lament”. It is a deep reflection into the nature of a lament, which has been mostly considered to be a negative thing. I do not see it that way. I believe that humans can be dissatisfied or fearful into this rapidly changing reality all over the world; but no matter how terrible it may seem, darkness starts to diminish as light comes into us. It comes into our hearts when they break, full of ego, and then the light comes into it, filling it, giving us hope and peace. It is a human dilemma.
