Patricia Reichler

Biography

I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
From a very young age I have been passionate about art. I always painted and always sang, I am also an engineer, but a few years ago I decided to focus exclusively on painting. Although I worked on different themes using different techniques, for more than 6 years I have dedicated myself to painting my own interpretation of the stories (Little Red Riding Hood, Beauty and the Beast, Puss in Boots and Alicia among others). My goal is to get through them to the most childish part that we all have inside. But at the same time, I also seek to mobilize the viewer with the psychological side of my works.
I work using different techniques: oil, collage, mixed media, pastels and stained glass lacquer.

Artist Statement

My name is Patricia Reichler, but in the artistic world im better known just as Pato Reichler. I was born in Buenos Aires Argentina, and I also have German citizenship due to my German father. My atelier is in Bella Vista, a small town in the surroundings of Buenos Aires.

What first prompted you to think of becoming an artist?

I’ve always been an artist, since I was a little girl I divided my free time between art and music.
Once I finished high school I went to University (UCA) and graduated as an engineer. I worked a few years in that field but after a while, I returned to my first passion: art.

What kind of an artist do you ultimately see yourself?

I consider myself as a figurative artist whose work represents current topics, basing most of my paintings on famous fairytales.

What are you hoping to communicate to the viewer through your work?

My objective is to transmit the importance of taking care of our world, the people who live in it and specially ourselves. I think it’s important that each person takes care of themselves in order to be able to help others. The need of fighting against physical, verbal and psychological abuse is something I want to communicate with my art.

Can you explain the process of creating your work?

Firstly I think the idea, work it in my mind, sketch it and imagine the possible final outcome. Then I will take it to the canvas, and in that process usually more ideas appear that keep shaping the work. And then comes the colors, contrasts and even objects such as cloth or origami shapes.

What is your favorite part of the creative process?

I really enjoy all the creative process, but if I have to choose one specific part of it, that would be imagining the art piece. Sometimes lots of ideas emerge at the same time and crowd my mind, so I’ll take a few days to think them and analyse them, put them in order, trying to achieve a harmonious and interpretable result.

Can you give us an insight into current projects and inspiration, or what we can look forward to from you in the near future?

Nowadays my project is to continue with this idea of painting my own interpretation of famous fairy tales. I think it’s a really interesting topic and I can reach people of all ages. I really enjoy watching how they receive my works, their opinions on them and even see how they identify themselves with the characters and situations I create. Regarding my future, the main idea is to continue this line of work with paintings that mobilize, make people think and generate awareness. And then, I will go wherever my imagination takes me.
