Artist Statement

“Patrick Joosten’s flowing gestures are full of emotional dedication. His artworks convince predominantly with the pathos of their colors. With his acrylic paintings, Joosten takes observers to a new reality, created by his wide brush stroke, and his way of scraping one color across the next to create unique transitions.
The traces of his tools bear witness to his process-oriented way of working.
The texture of colored spaces is a special focus in his work. The resulting stretches of painting become screens of projection for the observer’s thoughts, emotions and dreams. Abstraction seems to have grown a soul.
At times, a deep Sky blue starts a conversation with bright red structures, or an immaterial lemon-yellow run into a figure sporting a gray design.”

What first prompted you to think of becoming an artist?

I have always been attracted to art in all its forms, but it was painting and probably Picasso's work that most prompted me to use brushes to express myself.

What kind of an artist do you ultimately see yourself?

I am predominantly a self-taught artist, and i am not following any particular artistic movement. I paint with no boundaries, for the pleasure of creation, hoping to share moments of emotion with those who appreciate modern art.

What are you hoping to communicate to the viewer through your work?

I hope people viewing the canvas will feel the appeal and emotion. My paintings very often express at first glance the power and energy of colors. Then in a second step, immersed in the interest of the interpretation of the painting, the spectator takes possession of the work and immerses himself in his own imaginary world.

Can you explain the process of creating your work?

Inspiration mainly comes from the spectacle of nature, beauty of landscape, cities or seaside. I try to catch the light, colors and emotion of the beautiful spectacle in nature and translate it with energy into an abstract art.

What is your favourite part of the creative process?

The first brushstrokes on a canvas always represent a great excitement, that of artistically bringing the project of a new painting to fruition. The second big moment is the presentation of the canvas to the Public with excitement and expectation of its reactions.

Can you give us an insight into current projects and inspiration, or what we can look forward to from you in the near future?

Currently, I am working on new techniques in order to enrich my possibilities to bring more intensity and emotions into my painting. It is also my permanent and constant goal. I also work more often on series to offer more artistic continuity in my proposal to Art lovers and Collectors.
