Ramón Rivas
Biography
Born in Ciudad Real (Spain). His family environment and the multidisciplinary influence of his professional activities; in sports, music, engineering, inventions and art, both in Castilla-La Mancha and Madrid, it was decisive for the creation within the art world of a very personal and different style, which has been called Rivismo, based on the application of the Experiential Brushstroke.
A continuous research work has managed to reinforce the Concepts and Philosophy that predominate in Rivismo and that have given prominence to material elements to which he has assigned aspects, functions and values of people. As a test for art lovers, the most direct method of showing his works was used, through exhibitions. Individual and group exhibitions have been held in; Spain, China, South Korea, Italy, Denmark, United States, among others. There are also works in the collection of museums in Spain, Denmark and South Korea. Influence on the Internet; Websites, Blogs and Social Networks have quickly contributed to publicize this artistic proposal. In response to all this disclosure of his work, he has received good news by being recognized by inviting him to international exhibitions, appearing in art books and magazines and awarding him multiple international awards.
Artist Statement
To understand his work, it is necessary to incorporate, in addition to his family, multi-professional and social experience, the figure of the invisible, non-human witness, who receives information through multiple channels. His brain processes it promoting creativity, novelty, surprise and imagination, giving freshness to art. And, above all, he gives freedom to the material and immaterial elements, so that they participate in equal conditions as if they were people. Mathematical or physical materials and expressions participate in the functions and feelings of human relationships. Hence,a conceptual balance is established between non-human elements; the strong and the weak, equality, empathy or role reassignment. Weak or brittle materials take over the characteristics and functions of strong materials. This explanation is in the conceptual text of Rivismo.
His works oscillate between reality and unreality. They show a balance between the elements; composition, textures, colors, etc. and above all, with the creation of an energetic current that circulates through the stage between the material, immaterial and human elements, which is projected outwards, enveloping itself with the energy of the observer. The images of him, and even parts of them, are created with visually exciting depth and are charged for reasons of impressive density.
What first prompted you to think of becoming an artist?
When art shares the air you breathe, it's very easy for the brain to produce continuous impulses that generate a multitude of easily decoding ideas to be incorporated into any kind of support. In my case, art was included in my family atmosphere. My grandfather painter of extraordinary frescoes, mainly, with hunting motifs. My mother painter of landscapes, flowers and children's themes. My father whose company was dedicated to fixing, restoring, building, painting and decorating all kinds of vehicles.
All this source of art, was present in me from a very young age, and participated during the summer holidays, as an assistant, in the work done by my relatives and their companies. This beginning was the basis for continuing and strengthening my artistic proposal, which has been complemented over time, with the multidisciplinary influence of my professional activities; in sport, music, engineering and inventions, until I consolidate my personal style and technique that I call Rivismo.
What kind of an artist do you ultimately see yourself?
Rather than seeing myself in a certain profile, I try to apply my creativity to be different and look for new artistic proposals that surprise and excite. My good imagination has been fundamental to develop creative, novel works that interact positively with the observer's eyes. My training as a Project and Organization Engineer, makes me work in an orderly, methodical way, studying the best alternatives, supervising the good execution, introducing scientific topics, balancing the composition and making the painting a walkable space for the viewer. As a result, images are produced with elaborate precision work, with impressive density and depth that visually captivate. For this reason, I prefer to work in a large format. For me, the artist is the reflection of his work.
What are you hoping to communicate to the viewer through your work?
Interaction with the viewer is essential to create a communication between the artist's neurons and those of the viewer. The scenario embodied in the work area is the trigger to activate these brain cells and begin a process of communication that generates physical and emotional states whose diagnosis detect: surprise, emotion, empathy, memories and, above all, a predisposition to let the imagination fly freely and, be able to interpret and create virtually your own work; with the elements, images, objects, etc., which you have in front of your eyes. So, my works, are not intended to be a mere decorative object but a skilled provocateur that encourages the viewer to participate and, at the same time, transform, into a creative artist for the duration of the journey through the stage and the images held in his retina.
Can you explain the process of creating your work?
As I indicated in the first question, I apply my personal style and technique which I call Rivismo. This artistic proposal is based on the use and application of Experienciales Brushstrokes in the work area. These brushstrokes involve differentiating concepts such as; "The strong and the weak." "From one side to the whole." "All to one part." "Experiential balance". Experiential empathy in materials. "Reassignment of roles and functions", among others. I plan my work, using the philosophy and concepts of Rivismo. I give priority to the incorporation of material and intangible elements to participate on an equal footing as if they were people. They intervene; materials, objects and mathematical or physical expressions, among others, that participate in functions and feelings typical of human relationships. With these elements, which constitute my personal work palette, I plan the story that I want to tell and surprise, and as if it were the realization and execution of a project, I take part in part its development and synchronize them, to reach the total balance of the composition, thus culminating in the final pictorial story. The work ends when all these material and intangible concepts and applications are incorporated into support; canvas, wood, aluminium, iron, etc., applying a mixed technique, specific to Rivismo, involving material and visual elements.
What is your favourite part of the creative process?
The phase of the creation of the story that I want to tell, constitutes for me, the foundation for building a consistent pictorial building. Therefore, I spend a lot of time mentally drawing the architecture of the composition. My work of creation, imagination and visualization analyzes the elements that I want to intervene. As mentioned above, I work on balancing; shapes, sizes, texture, colours and I optimize the overall distribution. Once I agree with the visualization of the chosen story, I move on to joining the final support.
Can you give us an insight into current projects and inspiration, or what we can look forward to from you in the near future?
The incorporation of concepts or intangible elements into my work, guarantee a wide variety of themes to build stories. The image occupies a natural prominence in the realization of any artist. In future projects, I want to insist on less visual elements such as mathematical expressions, physics, equations, etc., whose resolution determines and defines the object or brushstroke of the work, without the need for its actual appearance to appear. Solving these equations or expressions will be a challenge for the viewer who will try to discover and be able to fit the intangible elements into the work. My works are having very good acceptance, on social media, in exhibitions, press, book publishers and art magazines. These reasons have led to my work being awarded a multitude of international awards. In the future, my objectives will focus on being able to present my specific works in consolidated art spaces that have the capacity to legitimize my work as differentiated works and value their contribution in the art world. Therefore, I will try to focus my works on large museums: MoMA, Guggenheim, Reina Sofia, etc. The challenge is difficult, but not impossible. I trust that any entity or person who interacts in this selective art sector will have the sensitivity necessary to value my artistic proposal.
