Valerie Feo
Biography
Valerie Feo is an American figurative artist who resides by the beach in South Jersey. She is a graduate from Stockton University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
Throughout her adult years, Valerie’s passion for art never dimmed but took the back seat to her full time job. However, when COVID-19 hit and quarantine went into place, Valerie turned her new apartment into a working studio. Valerie created day and night with more time than ever to focus solely on her art. Her work continued to evolve and develop into a style all her own.
Valerie began to receive international recognition. Her work was featured in September’s 2020 month long exhibition “Eureka” at the Palazzo Ducale Museum in Genoa, Italy and in “Kromatic@rt” exhibition at the MADS Gallery in Milan, Italy. In addition, Valerie will be a featured artist under the Van Gogh Gallery in Madrid, Spain at the 2021 International Contemporary Fair in Paris.
Valerie is inspired by color, fashion and strong individuals who are not afraid to stand out.
What first prompted you to think of becoming an artist?
Art has been a large part of my life as far back as I can remember. It is the essence of who I am. To be able to make a living as an artist has eluded me for a great part of my life. When COVID struck I found myself unemployed which gave me the time to not only create art but to learn how to market my work while building a brand.
What kind of an artist do you ultimately see yourself?
I see myself as an expressive figurative artist. Although my work will evolve over time, the essence of my work will remain the same.
What are you hoping to communicate to the viewer through your work?
I want to evoke emotion. The viewer must feel as well as see my paintings.
Can you explain the process of creating your work?
The process of creating begins with visualization. I then do a rough sketch before deciding on my colour scheme which is generally reflective of my present mood. Throughout the entire process, I am working from all angles flipping the canvas as well as working around my easel. When I am satisfied with the general painting, I take a break before completing it. I then look at it with fresh eyes and add the final details.
What is your favourite part of the creative process?
My favourite part of the creative process is adding the final accents using either contrasting colours or bold black lines.
Can you give us an insight into current projects and inspiration, or what we can look forward to from you in the near future?
In the near future I will be going big; working larger scale while experimenting with new mediums. I plan to work on large installations and murals.
