Isabela Oshida

Biography

Isabela Oshida Fialho, better known as Isabela Oshida, was born in 1999, in São Paulo, Brazil. In 2017, she had a psychotic break, where she was never the same. She was subjected to severe treatment. In 2018, through therapeutic means he started to paint doodles, very unconscious, using colors and lines to express all the intense feelings she felt. In 2019, she had contact with the unconscious one night, through a dream, where he dreamed of generating a life, and it was clear that it was time to create. The artist is inspired by the Fauvism, Expressionism and Surrealism movements. When she hold the brush, the inner child comes to life. It uses unique techniques, totally connected to the unconscious. The use of colors is like an explosion of feelings, with unnatural colors and appearing. Prioritizing freedom and always the feeling to be passed on. It shows the irregularity of duality, such as good and evil, as well as being destructive or healthy. Treating all the anger and sadness in the world, hope and disappointment.

Artist Statement

The creative process is quite unconscious, occurring through the explosion of colors. The symbols appear, after the explosion, as magic in the eyes of the artist portraying the intense feelings. Traces are simple, but charged with feelings and emotions, forming unconscious symbols bringing an explosion of information and meanings. Participated in the LOVE MY BODY exhibition in M.A.D.S Milano and is affiliated with NGO IAVA.

What first prompted you to think of becoming an artist?

I never imagined myself being an artist, I never thought that one day this would be possible. I have already imagined myself a doctor, psychologist and even a math teacher, but never an artist. I believe that art was something repressed within me, and when art broke out it screamed, as did other things, feelings, actions, thoughts, voices and hallucinations. After the psychotic break of 2017, I do the intensive treatment. My psychologist always told me that I needed to find a way to channel and express in a healthy way everything I feel, she tells me to write, paint, dance, do something, but it was all so confusing that I couldn't understand, really not I managed to sculpt. In 2018 I met a man who said that she should put on paper everything she felt, that I paint, lines, doodles, colors, I replied that I didn't know how to paint or draw and she said - Isa can be a line or a scribble has a feeling, you don't have to be a Picasso of life. After that conversation, I started to express everything in unconscious lines and doodles. In 2019, I dreamed of generating a life, the unconscious screamed again saying to look at this repressed part, art is my life. I woke up and realized how much I repressed all forms of expression and feelings I felt. Today, by virtue of the products of the unconscious together with consciousness, I can see myself as an artist. Art moves transforms me, saves me, without it I don't know if I would survive. Art is life, it is the essence of being and passing, it is what moves us and inspires us to live.

What kind of an artist do you ultimately see yourself?

I see myself as the former Germans of the DIE BRÜCKE era. I'm kind of crazy and I like this because I can express and represent the madness that I live and feel. I am the new generation of drafts that can’t stand to be silent anymore. The revolution of mutilated and repressed feelings. The sea of the unconscious that arrived to show the world that something must be done in relation to the lack of understanding of feeling.

What are you hoping to communicate to the viewer through your work?

I always have the intention to show the feelings, whether good or bad. Portrait the duality and the balance and the imbalance of the opposites, always prioritizing the feeling to be passed

Can you explain the process of creating your work?

my creative process, comes through the colors, after the explosion the symbols appear as magic to my eyes. It is a process of the unconscious, varying from feeling to feeling. Everything is a matter of feeling. I do the background first, letting my body guide me through colors and lines, forming something very abstract. When the background is ready, symbols laden with meaning appear in my mind. Expressing all the intense feeling I feel.

What is your favourite part of the creative process?

The colors touch my feeling, my being. Colors express themselves. Being able to enter the artistic world and being able to send a message to the world like magic. I think the background says a lot about my mood, colors and movements. It's all very free. I try my best not to follow rules, but to create a unique style, with my symmetry, my colors, my own rules. I really like the freedom of my creative process.

Can you give us an insight into current projects and inspiration, or what we can look forward to from you in the near future?

I am inspired a lot by Carl Jung, I think my works have a lot to do with the domain of the unconscious. I like not to think too much and let all the symbols that are stored in the collective unconscious appear. I have a project in process called Madness Mind, where I portray personality disorder and how they can harm us. I also explain a little about the LIFE-DEATH-LIFE ritual, where you let something that hurts you to die for something better to be born in its place. Portrait the new suicide, which would be a healthy suicide, turned to the ritual LIFE-DEATH-LIFE. I am in production in making clothes with my works, the name of the brand is ARQUETIPANDO.
