James Whitington
Biography
James Whitington had his first solo exhibition of paintings at Blaxland Gallery in Sydney in 1988. Previous to this, he was known as a master printmaker working with many celebrated Australian artists to create etchings, linocuts, woodcuts and monotypes with artists, Charles Blackman, Arthur and David Boyd, Judy Cassab, Ann Thomson, Brett Whitely, Elaine Haxton, John Firth-Smith and many others. He learned from these elder artists, how to develop his craft as an artist.
He has exhibited his visual art work at Orange, Tamworth, New England and Cessnock Regional Galleries and Brenda May, Klei and Blaxland Galleries in Sydney. In 2006 he was represented in “Mono Uno” at the Charles Sturt gallery in Wagga Wagga. This was a unique survey of Australian Artists making Monotypes through the years from 1898 to 2006.
His recent painting series, “Women of the Forest”, places the female form in forest environments, aligning curvilinear limbs with the shapes of branches and canopies of foliage - the ancient connection of women to nature.
