Marcelle Mansour, Artist Statement
Inspired by my experiences and memories as a Universal Western-Eastern Women, and the connection to my roots that informs my identity as an Australian-Palestinian Christian Artist. My work is a mirror reflecting my soul and everything related to myself, channeling the pulse of society as a universal essence relating to the whole of humankind. I reflect on human conscience, psychology and perception to see the inward significance of my art with the purpose to find hope for peace toward advancing humanity and reshaping reality.
My artworks express human emotions of longing for peace as an essential part of humanity. It raises my voice to communicate with the world to be heard and better understood. it reflects on reconfiguration of experiences and memories rooted in human personal culture and identity.
Through my work I represent the story of the Palestinian woman who has been experiencing prolonged war with no peace. Some of my artworks are textualised with symbols and digits related to the subject to evoke a new perception in telling the history of Palestinian cause. The unique embroidered cross-stitch is a symbol of the Palestinian cultural heritage. The women’s facial expression emphasises the virtuous feelings of profound humility and spirituality. She has the gift of heroic patience that cultivates hope for peace in the hearts of viewers, hoping to end war and to transfer humanity into a better world.
