Interview with Andrea Ivetic Vicai
Freelance illustrator by day, creature designer by night.
Could you please introduce yourself and tell us how you started in the arts? and your first experience in art making?
My starting story is probably the same as any other artist. The first time I made art was when I was really small, I can't remember when that was but my mother told me stories how I drew with anything on anything that I could get my hands on. Art always made sense, it was easy, natural, it felt right.
How would you describe yourself and your artwork?
I love to experiment and I love to experiment with shapes and details. My creations come from my spirit and wonder. To make things that are new, to draw from my imagination.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
My inspiration mostly comes from life and nature. I'm a very curious person and so I love to learn new things. And the best part of learning new things is that you can incorporate them in art.
What emotions do you hope the viewers experience when looking at your art?
Honestly, whatever they feel is good enough. Art is meant to be experienced in your own way. All I can hope is that a person will feel something when they look at my art.
When do you know that an artwork is finished ?
Now that is difficult to explain. I guess the best way to describe it is, that I just know. You get this sense of relief, like a big weight has been lifted.
What has been the most exciting moment in your art career so far?
There have been many moments, although I'm relatively new at a professional career. I guess the best part of it would be whenever a kid tells me that I inspired them to start drawing or creating. That's the best feeling in the world.
How long does it take to produce one work?
You know what, I have no idea ... some times it takes hours, some times days. Every artwork is created in its own time.
What exciting projects are you working on right now?
There are few in the pipeline, but the one that is the closest to completion is going to be a product as well. It is an illustrated set of Tarot cards which I will call Terror Cards. Every illustration will feature my signature mascot creature.
Do you have any upcoming events or exhibitions we should know about?
For this year no, but there are future events that are still in the brainstorming phase for next year.
