Could you please introduce yourself and tell us how you started in the arts? and your first experience in art-making?
Hello, my name is Pedro Ramos, i am portuguese and live in Porto, Portugal.
I studied Biochemistry at the University of Glasgow.
My first experience in art making was with film. I used to do short films with my camera, but also small drawings in notebooks.
How would you describe yourself and your artwork?
I believe I produce contemporary abstract art using acrylic painting mainly, but I also use indian-ink, oilbars and watercolours.
My creative process is methodical and I plan in advance what I am going to do.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Inspiration is an overestimated word i think. Because for me the main thing is hard work. But I could say other artistic expressions help me with my work such as cinema, music and poetry.
What emotions do you hope the viewers experience when looking at your art?
If I get any sort of response I am satisfied with it, whether it is the perception of something or just awe :), i don't really know.
When do you know that an artwork is finished?
My artworks are done in a fast way, so i don't spend much time with each work. I tend to work in series, which means that instead of just one piece I do several similar ones that constitute a series.
What has been the most exciting moment in your art career so far?
To have my work exhibited in The Brick Lane Gallery in London was pretty good.
How long does it take to produce one work?
A day.
What exciting projects are you working on right now? Can you share some of the future plans for your artwork?
Rigth now I am doing some work in paper with acrylic, that is a bit more figurative than what I normally do.
Do you have any upcoming events or exhibitions we should know about?
I am going to do an Open Studio exhibition in my studio with some colleagues, that's going to be soon.
Where do you see your art going in five years?
I hope I can really make a livin' with this, so in five years time I hope I have more chances to exhibit and sell.
