Interview with JoJo Huxford

Interview with JoJo Huxford

My creative mind was established very young, from a childhood replete with illness. My imagination was my salvation from these very harsh beginnings 12 to 22.
This resource is represented in my art.
My art is an immersive experience, a sense of independence, freedom flight.
JKH art flows to the realm of the senses. I take you there: without aim presently or subjectively.
I fly with colour, certain undertones of reality: joy, death, sorrow, sensuality.
‘the stuff of life. Some have called it creative genius; I call it survival 101 from tough beginnings.

Can you tell us about the moment you decided to pursue a career as an artist?

I decided to pursue a career as an artist when I realized my work was being recognized and appreciated by the art world. I opened my Instagram Account to the public about two years ago and I have had much recognition from art galleries around the world for exhibitions from books and magazines for features internationally so and I have won several international awards. This is when I realized I wanted to pursue a career as an artist.

What kind of an artist do you ultimately see yourself?

I see myself as an artist who tries to have my ARTworks touch the human heart and the human condition.  I have had much tragedy in my life with many losses etc. and I do believe my artwork is a touchstone to humanity on many levels.

What do you want your art to convey to the people who see it? What is the meaning or creative motivation behind your work?

I would like my art to convey to the people color power strength joy and depth. The meaning and creative motivation behind my work is perhaps my life I have had many difficult situations to overcome in my life from serious health issues very young to losing my beautiful husband at 37 years old after a 10 year battle of cancer losing my brother at 30 years old to AIDS. Other losses a life replete with certain loss and tragedy and I believe my art touches the hearts of many due to these factors.

Can you tell us about the process you use to create your works? What is your typical workday routine?

Typical workday routine is I get up in the morning and I work on interviews statements Magazine features book features etc. and social media world promos. And then I move on to my creative mind which comes easier. I have no clue what I am going to do the day I do it in the context of my artwork it just somewhat flows out of me according to the mood of my day. I love color I love powerful strokes I love motion in my art and when I’m in the art I’m in the art I’m pretty much of the art.

Where do you find inspiration? What motivates you to create?

I find inspiration just from every day moments. What motivates me to create is usually a sense or should I say a yearning to put emotion to paper whether it be with ink pencil watercolor acrylic onto digital format it’s usually an urge to create that comes from my mind and my emotions.

What has been your most outstanding achievement to date?

I would say the most outstanding achievement to this date has been partaking in Grant Milnes Virtual exhibit in Times Square, New York City this summer June 23 2022. Grant Milnes magazine is Artist Talk Magazine from Paris he’s a wonderful person. I believe this was a pinnacle of my art from the time, when I took it up two years ago. For so many reasons. My late husband was a Wall Street person he worked on 57th and fifth and we loved New York City together. And my late brother was an architect in New York City he lived down in Soho and he so loved New York City. For so many reasons this was a touchstone in my life.

What are your ultimate career goals?

My ultimate career goals: I would love to have a gallery of my own and have my arte works: the larger works all over the walls: linen walls, wooden floors, pin lights. I think it would be striking, elegant and very well received. I have had many magazine features, many book features and I have four books on Amazon. I have won several international awards. I have exhibits in galleries all over the world. I’am at the point I would adore having my own gallery. A small beautiful gallery where you walk in and there are JoJo Huxford’s all present to view. I think it would be magical and successful.
