Lemmie M. Downs-Lunn, Jr. is a passionate photographer based in Hampton, Virginia, USA; with over 20 years of experience in capturing the beauty of the world through both landscapes and portraits.
Inspired by the interplay between nature and humanity, Lemmie seeks to tell compelling stories that resonate on a personal level.

Artist Statement

As a landscape and portrait photographer, I strive to capture the beauty and complexity of the human experience as it unfolds within the natural world. My work is a dialogue between the serene landscapes that surround us and the rich narratives of the individuals who inhabit them. Through my lens, I aim to explore the profound connections between places and people, revealing how each influences and shapes the other.

In my landscape photography, I seek to evoke a sense of wonder and introspection. My approach is to immerse myself in the environment, allowing the light, colors, and textures of each location to guide my vision. Whether it's the grandeur of a mountain range at dawn or the subtle tranquility of a misty forest, I aim to convey the emotions that these natural settings inspire. Each image invites viewers to pause and reflect, encouraging a deeper appreciation for the world we often take for granted.

Equally essential to my practice are my portrait sessions, where I endeavor to capture the essence of individuals against the backdrop of these landscapes. I believe that every person has a unique story that deserves to be told, and my goal is to convey the emotions and narratives that define them.
Through intimate interactions and a collaborative approach, I create portraits that resonate with authenticity and vulnerability, allowing viewers to connect with the subject on a personal level.

Ultimately, my photography is about storytelling-both of the land and its inhabitants. I am inspired by the interplay between environment and identity, and I strive to unify these elements in my work.
