Artist Spotlight - Marie-Ghislaine Beauce
Biography
Born in France in 1951, I studied life drawing, sculpture, arts history, interior design, painting and was involved in personal creative projects at the National School of Fine Arts in Nantes (South Brittany), greatly influenced by the Bahaus design; for this reason my work is based on abstraction; during my studies I was inspired by Catalan textile artist Grau-Garriga after visiting one of his tapestry exhibitions. Living in London since the late 1980s, I have many years of experience as an artisan and color advisor in interior design;
Artist Statement
Since 2015 Marie-Ghislaine Beaucé has been active as a textile artist, designs and manufactures pieces in which textile fibers, different in texture, color and material intertwine with each other creating an abstract and geometric lattice; through this structural design, she creates and examines a large and mysterious space, far from reality,
which can only be represented through abstraction and marked by the slow succession of layers of fabric playing with the contrast of color and textures, passing from the two-dimensionality of fabrics to the three-dimensionality of padded tubes, making her work a hybrid halfway between patchwork and plasticism.
