Biography

Born and raised in Africa, but a Canadian now, the inspiration for each of Richard's paintings arises from yoking the visual conceptualizations of our collective history, the dynamics of a perpetual present, and the belief in an evolutionary future.

Passing Through Too, 2012. Oil on canvas, 106 x 182 cm.

With multiple awards across the disciplines of art, academics, teaching, theatre directing (musicals and plays), acting, and writing, Richard feels deeply honoured also to have some of his paintings presented here.

Artist Statement

An impassioned sense of the metaphysical imbues my work. Since art speaks to each of us, but in differing voices during our times with it, we naturally bring our own lives to its presence. The feeling, or reaction, is in the moment.

De Historia et Veritate, (Quebec's Plains of Abraham)1981. Oil on canvas, 92 x 122 cm.

The esoteric depends on one’s knowledge. The spiritual depends on one’s resonance. And the medium, the methods, the skills applied, and the intentions of the imagery are all a part of my mind's metaphorical translations in the making.
