Biography

Since my education at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam I have been an independent artist. I paint with oil or acrylic and make digital drawings on an iPad as well. I lived in many places around the world, making paintings in India, the United States, Senegal, Ghana, Mali, the Netherlands, Mozambique and Switzerland, showing them at important exhibitions in almost all those countries.

Aiguille de Criou, 2020,Oil on canvas, 90 x 120 cm

The impressions and experiences of travelling were important for my development as an artist. Each new location had its own unique lighting and angle of incidence. I explored new inspiring themes everywhere.

By looking at the world from different angles, I have collected a wealth of images and imaginations. It is a pleasure to share these with everyone through my paintings. More is yet to come.

Artist Statement

With every new painting, I embark on an adventure of unfamiliar routes using my own style, perception, and sense of color. Making a painting is a personal journey as well. Layer-by-layer, a piece of art with its own soul arises.

Crête de la montagne, 2020, acrylic on paper, 76 x 56 cm

High up in the mountains exists another world. The power of nature is almost physically tangible. Human influence appears to be absent, except for noticeable climate change. Geological layers reveal themselves in different colours. Rocks are drawn by jagged lines. Water always flows down somewhere to give life to the world below.
