Interview with Rory Bills-Everett

Interview with Rory Bills-Everett

Rory Bills - Everett is a contemporary abstract painter who lives and works between Lisbon, Portugal and the West of Ireland.
She is an intuitive artist and whilst her work is informed by the coastal regions in which she resides, ultimately her paintings are a manifestation of her internal dialogue.
In allowing her emotions to be represented on the canvas, Rory provides a platform from which to converse with the viewer. In doing so, she offers a space for the audience to embody the experience.
She uses expressive brushstrokes and a vibrant, energetic colour palette to create her works of art.
Rory will be featured in the upcoming edition of the Visionary Art Collective Magazine and her work has been shown in exhibitions in London and New York. Including “What Is Art?” and “Art For Real” at Boomer Gallery London, 2022. She has had a painting acquired for the permanent collection at the Children's Museum of Arts, NYC and she was spotlighted in the new visionary art collective magazine in October 2022.

Can you tell us about the moment you decided to pursue a career as an artist?

It was when I was about 5 years old and I made a painting one day that my mum said was really similar to something by Frank Auerbach and my mums had it framed and hung on our wall.

What kind of an artist do you ultimately see yourself?

Abstract

What do you want your art to convey to the people who see it? What is the meaning or creative motivation behind your work?

I want my paintings to convey joy and energy. They are emotional landscapes which invite the viewer to step into a moment , a memory or a feeling with me.

Can you tell us about the process you use to create your works? What is your typical workday routine?

I love to go into my studio and play with paints. I especially enjoy wide brushes and large canvases as I can do more experimental techniques on these. I always have some music in the background mainly my mums old cds. Particular favorite is the cats musical soundtrack!

Where do you find inspiration? What motivates you to create?

I really love to sky gaze and draw inspiration from nature. One of my paintings was inspired by our oceans and the pollution we are stuffing into them.

What has been your most outstanding achievement to date?

When my painting "Cephalopod" was acquired by the childrens museum of the arts in New York City for their permanent collection .

What are your ultimate career goals?

To place more of my paintings with more galleries around the world.

What are you working on now, and what can we expect from you soon?

I'm currently away from my studio, living the Swiss mountains for the winter. So I'm not able to do messy painting as usual. I'm creating a series of works on paper inspired by the mountains and snow life here.
