Interview with Silke Wolff

Silke Wolff, *1965, lives and works as an artist in Ludwigshafen, Germany.

Already at early age she had her own desk where she drew and painted gestural, abstract in 4 media.

After high school she studied drawing and design at 4 high ranking international universities. Followed by 14 years of international freelancing in product design.

During this time Silke Wolff traveled up to half a year to the USA, Yemen, Egypt, Thailand, China and India where she discovered new cultural worlds.

Another exciting, unknown world opened up to her when she started to meditate daily in 1996. This realm  Silke Wolff interprets in her graphics. With 16 aura paintings she took part in the big exhibition at the famous Wilhelm Hack Museum, Ludwigshafen. It was called “Gewächse der Seele” (soul’s plants) and her “Aura” paintings suited really well to it.

After this remarkably start Silke Wolff put her resources into fine art. Knowing her craft again there is a new world to discover. Renowned, international galleries present silk Pop Art in group and solo exhibitions throughout the world. Her distinctive digital art can be found in many printed fine art catalogs and on Instagram.com/silke.wolff.popart .

Silke Wolff has been nominated for “Top 60 Masters Award” 24 + 25,  awarded with the “Int. Phoenix Prize”, “The Best Contemporary Masters 2024”, “Int. Velazquez & Goya Prize”, and with several certificates.

The esteemed art critic and historian Anthony Fawcett wrote a one paged mesmerizing review to her and her fine art:“In conclusion, one encounters her work as distinctly uplifting, each creation pulsating with a genuine feeling of joy and positivity, solidifying her status as a true post-pop artist of the 21st century.”

The post pop art fine artist Silke Wolff opens a  secret, supernatural universe with her original graphics.

By her broadened consciousness, which she has been developing for 30 years of daily meditative practice, she perceives this sphere of existence.

Such unique situations she catches with oil pastel drawings in sketch books. From these ideas for her cycles with series arise, which she creates as digital collages, based on drawings and photos, completed with texts.

Silke, your philosophy that "a supernatural world exists" underpins much of your work. Can you discuss the foundational experiences or revelations that led you to this belief, and how it has shaped your artistic vision?

The age of enlightenment led to the conviction that only facts proven by natural science are believable. Starting with daily Taoist meditations in 1996 I have exciting non physical impressions with all of my senses. My social surrounding strongly rejected my enthusiastic reports about this supernatural subject. More than 20 years later I had been ready to present some of these joyful experiences to a rapidly growing fine art community. I am thankful for the freedom of art offering me the room and attention to express my fantastic metaphysical perceptions which are off mainstream. As in “Para Healing” 2023 expressing perfect health only by imagination in eternal life.

In your series "PSI Thing," you explore the concept of supernatural microbes becoming supernatural things. How do you conceptualize the transformation of the mundane into the supernatural, and what does this metamorphosis symbolize in the broader context of your work?

In countless hours of autodidact exploration about my mental perceptions I came to the conclusion that only the once living are part of eternal life. My series “Supra Plant Man” 2022 and “Supra Energeti, -te, -tos Emerging” 2022 express this creation of energetic personalities. Still lifeless objects are magically created. My “Para Conjure Car” 2023 series thematises that. Two things helped to ease this contradiction. My perception of paranormal shape transformation, shown in “Para Transformation” 2023 and new studies about anaerobic microbes, published by a Professor, Doctor of medicin. Those two news  guided me to develop my idea of solely energetic microbes turning themselves into solely energetic things. With my series “PSI Thing” 2024 I praise the triceratrillions microbes for their very intelligent, altruist action helping metaphysical people to create and handle any thing they imagine.

Your artistic journey has been marked by a shift from product design to fine art, influenced by meditation and cultural exploration. How have these transitions enriched your understanding of the supernatural, and how do they manifest in your current works?

During product design studies I learned much about object drawing, digital basics and aesthetics. This knowledge and capabilities enables me to create appealing digital graphics. It is one fundament of my fine art. Being European, the long time travels to Asia and the Orientals opened so far unknown worlds to me. Alike watching “Ster Trek” on TV. My mind is open to the new and unexpected. Eagerly I discover the  strange during my meditations. These discoveries form the intellectual content of my fine art. They built the second fundament. A third fundament can be called my knowledge of the english language and international business relations in my freelance “silk DESIGN” times. Based on three pillars and gifted with fantasy I feel well equipped to contribute a precious part to fine art.

The notion of "Para Climate Improve" suggests a supernatural intervention in environmental processes. How do you envision the role of supernatural forces in addressing real-world issues like climate change, and how is this reflected in your art?

“Virtues can develop in a bright aura” I sum up the meaning of my series “Supra Aura Brighten Up” 2022. My artistic reaction to war in Europe again. Similar to the Saints there brightening up the aura of a negative person, microbes positive somebodies subconscious climate in “Para Climate Improve” 2023. The basic idea is that a positive subconscious guides the way to positive conscious actions. This can be a simple flower on the balcony or window sill for joy. The flower nourishes insects which are food for birds and store CO². It might cheer up and motivate a neighbor to care about a second flower. The group dynamics soon improves the physical climate. The bright colors of my pictures have the same effect. Simply looking at them they positive the recipients. Their individual emotional climate improves.

In your meditative practice, you access a realm that you describe as supernatural. Could you explain the process of translating these deeply personal and intangible experiences into tangible art forms that others can perceive and connect with?

More than 2 decades I perceive and contemplate about non physical situations. The ability to elucidate took quite some time. 2019 I took the chance to start my fine art career in Wilhelm Hack Museum. Today I work with galleries representing artists in the middle of their career and established artists. Since 2021 I add texts to my metaphysical series. These rank from the descriptive title,  one summing up sentence to an explanatory list of the picturesque elements and a short essay. Those words complete my pictures with their unique narratives. Whenever possible I attach them. The pictures themselves show comprehensible pictogrammatic symbols like the triangle to be found in “Para Transformation” 2023. Well known picturesque symbolism combined with words form my presentation. The recipients can just cheer about the vivid colors and are very welcome to dive into the accompanying intellectual words.

Your art often features cyclical series such as "Para Juvenation" and "PSI ABC," hinting at themes of renewal and learning in the supernatural world. How do these cycles represent the continuous evolution of both your inner world and your artistic practice?

Today, 2024, about 30 metaphysical series are assorted in 4 cycles. First the cycle “Meta . . .” like metaphysical introduces some long time actors. Second my cycle “Supra . . .”, supranatural or supernatural, shows interactions of the physical with the metaphysical worlds. Third in cycle “Para . . .” like paranormal I tell about fantastic capabilities as mentioned in “Para Flying” 2023 and “Para Beaming” 2023. And so far my final fourth cycle “PSI . . .” interprets actions performed in my supernatural realm. My surreal post pop art work is systemized. Mostly it takes years of repeated perception both of fine art and inner life until I create a new series.

The integration of digital art with traditional drawing techniques is a hallmark of your style. How do you navigate the interplay between digital and analog mediums to capture the essence of the supernatural, and what unique challenges and opportunities does this present?

First of all it does what you name it, it forms my style. Studying past and contemporary art my style so far seems unique. The creation of digital collages allow me to integrate former drawings. “PSI Recycling” 2024 gives a good example of this using my designs. Still the new creation of a single image can take several hours. My handwritten “Gimp” laptop orders fill DIN A4 pages. In a strongly repetitive digital process I create my series. While a once thoroughly calculated composition remains equal colors and forms of single elements vary. I am happy to offer the wide range of single pictures; 6, (9), 12 parted ensembles and complete series with up to 100 pieces assorted in four cycles. All in editions of 10 for small to large money and space. Ideal for collectors.

Your works are described as "emotive digital sketches" that mature into multi-layered compositions. Can you delve into the emotional and intellectual processes that guide this maturation, particularly in the context of depicting supernatural themes?

My successful one woman work is constantly guided by “Energetis Sil”, my energetic alter egos, honored in “Meta Sil” 2021 and “Meta Sil W” 2022. Subconsciously for me, teams of Sils accompany my biologic life. With our so called “Impulse communication” they attentive and spontaneous bring solutions to life time situations to my conscious mind. At the right moment the corresponding idea pops up. In addition we mentally talk and share optics which takes much of my time thinking alone drinking sweet white coffee and smoking cigarettes. In silent dialogue I receive their metaphysically well researched way to act.

Anthony Fawcett noted your ability to create an immersive experience through your art. How do you approach the task of making the supernatural accessible and engaging for your audience, and what techniques do you use to evoke a sense of otherworldliness?

My works look bright and colorful. Their compositions are harmonious and balanced. At first glance they are attractive and bring joy. A second look might lead to their title and the hopefully accessible texts telling about their surreal meaning. Optically most elements of my digital collages are alienated and abstracted. Together with controlled blur this depicts the depth of some different. Anthony Fawcett (*1948 Uxbridge, Canada), author, art critic and historicist, operatively describes my intentional work as: “. . . uplifting . . . integrating advanced technology with the human soul’s perpetual quest for meaning.”

Given your extensive travels and exposure to diverse cultures, how do you see the concept of the supernatural differing or converging across cultural boundaries, and how has this influenced your representation of the supernatural in your art?

Since the age of enlightenment natural sciences influence to every day life strongly grew. To many people a fact is only what can be proved with man made instruments. Other are ancient myths and fantasies without relevance. The open minded recipient of my cheerful graphics completed with deepening texts is welcome to discover a mind boggling parallel universe. There the world famous rock musician Freddie Mercury (1946 Stone Town, Tanzania – 1991 Kensington, London, UK) “Meta Freddie” 2021, “Meta Freddie M” 2022 performs to extraterrestrials on far distant planets. I offer pleasant narratives to broaden one’s horizon and give unusual content to individual thinking and social talks.
