Interview with Sónia Domingues
Sónia Domingues - Sonny* was born in France. She was still a young girl when she came to Portugal and soon in her life the Art assumed an important role. At fourteen, she was invited to partake on what would be her first Collective Exhibition which allowed this young artist to reveal herself on the magnificent Universe of Art. At sixteen, more convinced that art would be his accomplishment both Personal and Professional life, she got specialized in several artistic style, aiming to innovate her Dynamic "Art Style". Her constant Journeys abroad allowed her to acquire new Products and Pigments which made it possible to accomplish the effects of her Dreams.
Due to its Bubbling Nature Creative, her Inspiration emerges from the Depths of the Oceans until to Universe, with real passion, love and emotion.Thus, her Artistic Plurality, is Showed by the developing a Eclectic and Unique Style, with a Very Contemporary Artistic Spirit, with the presence of the Figurative, in a form of expression both Impressionist and Expressionist, with the preponderant Symbolism, using the Cubism, the Geometric Abstractionism and the Futurism as soft spices'', passing by the Pop & Conceptual Art, touching in the Art Nouveau" until the Surrealism...!
Her Art and Artistic Vision, has resulted in many Individual and Collective Exhibitions around the World and in Recognition of her Talent, has received more than 55 of the Most Prestigious International Awards. Between Exhibitions she also creates taylor-made Works of Art for customers on all types of surfaces, since Screens/Canvas - Oil/Acrylic until Stained Glass in the maximum Security Dimension. Throughout her artistic career has participated also not only in Creation of Prototypes, in the Entertainment Area, as performs Image Consulting, to all appreciators of their Artistic Style, thus creating all Type of Fashion Accessories & Artistic Interventions in Men and Women's Fashion Wear.
"Sonny's Art” can be found both in Continental Portugal and Islands as in several countries, namely Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg, Denmark, UK, United States, South Korea, Dubai, Brazil, Norway, Finland, Angola, Mozambique, East Timor and Japan.
Could you please introduce yourself and tell us how you started in the arts? and your first experience in art making?
I’m a Plastic Artist, Designer and Glass Painter.
Very soon in my life the Art assumed an important role, for paths of life, gently, have created encounters that have become significant, as a light that guides and shows the way forward...Inside me, it seems that I heard the answer...In my Prayers, I asked Our Wonderful Creator to help me discovering what I would do in my life that would complete me as a human being...
The answer arose precociously at age 14, when I was invited to partake on what would be my first Collective Exhibition…then the artistic voice'' became more audible at age 16 and in loud'' at 18.
How would you describe yourself and your artwork?
As a human being, I like to see the positive side of the things, and feel, with empathy, what the other humans feel… I'm doing my best to build my best version. As an Artist, I always desire embrace the artistic challenges with determination and responsibility, not as a hobby, but as a Profession.
Artistically, I develop my art on all kind of surfaces, from Screens/Canvas/Wood/ with diversified paints - Oil/Acrylic/Resins and Stained Glass until the maximum Security Dimension, always with the wish of to create New Themes and Compositions.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
My Inspiration emerges from the Depths of the Oceans until to Universe, with real passion, love and emotion, so, everything can inspire me, but, the creative essence maybe begins in the heart, a state of peace and harmony with everything that surrounds me… and then, with my heart prepared, inspires me all that is Incommensurable beautiful - from the human beauty to the animal kingdom without forgetting all kind of landscapes. The engine that energizes my Inspiration is lovely musical compositions, whether erudite, remastered or simply hits of the moment and finally the movement and fluidity. The movement of the water in the oceans, the powerful waves of the sea, its translucent and crystalline waters, the marine fauna and flora involved by this fluidity, the water flow of the rivers skirting the pebbles, that's why, I appreciate so much also the creation of organic themes, in connection with Nature!
Over time, I like more and more to put my thoughts into the depth of being, leaving me to enthuse... by all that is exceptional, from the Divine creative works, until the most extraordinary intelligent human creations, translating into the highest expression of possible qualities to be demonstrated, not with the purpose of exposing what is not well done or exercised in mankind, but to exalt qualities that the human being is able to demonstrate, of how good can be, of how well can he do to his similar, by producing more good works, in the most complete exercise of exemplary coexistence, taking as an example the motto...”Kindness generate kindness'' ... and this leads me to create themes and compositions with an ever deeper meaning, where the period of emptiness makes sense and complexity has an explanation!
That's why, sometimes, in the same creation/work, can contain various Artistic Styles 'Living Together', always with the same essence, Elevate/Emblazon the Beauty.
What emotions do you hope the viewers experience when looking at your art?
I feel happy and grateful when viewers, both clients such as art lovers feels enchanted, feeling that the story behind the work are in perfect connection with its end result, when they express that I created my own style, versatile and diversified, but always recognizable.
In the case of the accomplish of tailor-made works, by order, when the appreciation gives way to deep emotion in their eyes and culminates in a meaningful embrace/tight hug...at these times, my artistic dreams come true in the fullness...!
When do you know that an artwork is finished ?
It is as if the work communicates with me, I will go until it tell me that it feel complete, with all the details...*)
What has been the most exciting moment in your art career so far?
Thanks God, it has been so many unforgettable moments… Since the artistic appreciation of the customer who is happy with the final result of the Art ordered, until the appreciation and recognition by the Artistic Entities that award art all over the world!
How long does it take to produce one work?
There are works, which require drying time between the various stages, so, the time cannot be counted in number of hours followed until be finish, may require days, depending on the dimension and the details included can go up to one month.
A good thing is that between these drying stages, sometimes allows me to perform other works at the same time, and something important, is that regardless of the degree of difficulty, if I have given one deadline, I feel the responsibility of to do my best in order to be completed on time.
What exciting projects are you working on right now?
I just finished a Collection which tell in Art the Story of one renowned Luxury Brand of Fine Jewelry in Paris and now I'm giving continuity to the Creations that are part of Collections already started!
Do you have any upcoming events or exhibitions we should know about?
In this month of April, I received the 55th artistic recognition, from one Artistic Entity in Italy, where the Awards Ceremony took place on MEAM - Barcelona and in the final of this month, I will be part of the TOP 60 Masters of 2019, by the 4rd consecutive year, in which the Awards Ceremony will take place on the Museum of Art & Design in New York.
