Artist Spotlight - Tony Quimbel
Biography
Painter of oils on canvas, inspired by the romantic masters of the 19th century. I like the surrealist style, in the footsteps of Dali, whom I particularly appreciate.
After seven years of study at the Beaux Arts of Dunkirk (Flemish School in France), I was a private student for two years, of Xavier Degans (student and collaborator of Salvador Dali).
The VESTAL at the BATH - 2017 - Oil on Canvas - 116x81 cm
I have been working since then on the creation of medium-format oils on canvas.
Antique themes (Prometheus, Orpheus...), committed to the respect of the Planet, and the living World (the Tree Devis, A Tort et Adore, the Abyss, the Jewel...), and ancestral symbolism (Inn yang, Platonic Solids, Eden 2, the Tomb of Merlin, The Grimoire, Avalon, Advaïta...).
AQUILA - 2014 - Oil on canvas - 116x89 cm
Artist Statement
“Like the alchemist who in the depths of the night recasts the stone, again and again… I seek to achieve “the great work”, the work that makes us immortal, that crosses the ages.
Even if it is probably inaccessible, the will is fundamental and represents a goal that everyone should desire to achieve, in order to give meaning and unfailing motivation to our very short lives”.
The Arthur's DREAM - 2024 - Oil on Canvas - 120x100cm
I am a boundless admirer of the marvelous beauty of nature, I try to apprehend it from a Holistic and Tantric point of view. My painting tries to express this as best as possible, to invite the viewer to enter the canvas and simply blend into it with pleasure. Recently, I have been in a more committed approach, faced with the urgency of saving our beautiful planet that is suffering and that it is more than time to respect and save from our stupidity, because the sanction will be simple... our disappearance.
AVALON - 2020 - Oil on Canvas - 116x81 cm
Paintings such as "The Birth of the Mother Goddess" and "The Vestal Virgin at the Bath", express the necessary return to our lost androgynous Being, the masculine principle, Yang, has dominated everything for almost 2000 years, and explains the drift of our societies.
The TOMB of MERLIN - 2011 - Oil on Canvas - 130x89 cm
The Jewel has a double meaning, our Earth was this Jewel, and could become it again, a proposal to change the Egregore of mental pollution that surrounds the Planet; so let's quickly change our thoughts, our words and our actions and find the "Original Jewel".
The MEDITATION of the CHELA - 2012 - Oil on Canvas - 80x80 cm
In a continuous line, symbolism is my favorite kingdom (Platonic Solids, Eden 2, Merlin's Tomb, The Grimoire, Muladhara ...). Symbols are guides, imbued with wisdom since the dawn of time. Overexploited, over-shown, they leave us today, wrongly, indifferent.
The GRIMOIRE - 2011 - Oil on Canvas - 100x81 cm
For my part, I think that it becomes useful again, even necessary, to show them from a new angle, in order to challenge us in their profound meaning, to extract their timeless essence, and to find there the message adapted to our times.
