Irina Avilova

Irina Avilova

Biography

Born and raised in Moscow, Russia, Irina has been painting and drawing all her life. She never attended any art colleges or schools. Intuitively and passionately polishing her skills with each painting, Irina has developed her own style, closest to impressionists, which is still constantly evolving.
Ms. Avilova’s work was noticed in the very first exhibit she participated in 2006, when her “Moscow at Night” painting became the People’s Choice Award winner. Since then, Irina’s artwork has been part of multiple regional, national and international exhibits, including two personal shows. Her “Dream of New York” painting was mentioned in a local newspaper. Ms. Avilova’s paintings are in private and public art collections around the world.
Irina came to the United States in 1999 by herself. Since then, she has been missing her parents and her hometown, Moscow, only more and more. Many paintings reflect that. In other paintings you will see the artist’s travels or places she dreams of visiting.
Irina resides in Washington, DC with her husband and two beautiful children. She holds three master’s degrees (unrelated to Art) and works full-time in an international finance government organization.

Artist Statement

Irina values her status of a self-taught artist.
What you see in her paintings is pure creativity, uninfluenced and unbiased by the fear of how is right or wrong to paint. Irina is a true optimist, which shows through her art and its bright colors, casual beauty, and sparkles of light. Irina believes in the beauty of life, every person, and every moment. Art allows Irina to highlight such beauty in something that strikes and inspires her.
Irina loves exhibiting her work because she believes that art is about people with different experiences and backgrounds deriving their own emotional associations and interpretations from viewing paintings.
Irina’s paintings reflect her multi-cultural background, love for landscapes, sunsets, and cityscapes.
Another of Irina’s passions is dance. Back in Moscow she was part of a professional dance troupe. One of her artistic plans is to paint more about dance.
Irina currently mostly works with oil. She loves the texture it creates. The challenge is having enough patience to let each layer of the paint dry, which makes completion of an oil painting a lengthy and risky process. The artist also enjoys gouache, watercolor and drawing with pencil, charcoal, pen, or anything she finds handy.
