Wendy Alber
Biography
Wendy Alber was born in Mauritius and is currently living in Germany with her husband and their two children. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education in Visual Arts with First Class Honours from the University of Mauritius. She has been a dynamic and innovative art teacher since 2000 both in Mauritius and now in Germany. December 2018 has had a positive impact on her vision of herself as an artist. It happened on a cold winter day in a depressed mood perhaps, she felt the urge to paint and then realized that it did well to her soul, since then she could not stop. Her primary medium is acrylic and uses vivid, bright, and contrasting colors with dexterity. Her career as an artist took another turn in January 2021 when one of her works was digitally exhibited in an art gallery in Zürich, followed by another artwork exhibited both online and digitally in Milan. Since then, she has been participating in various online and digital exhibitions, seeing this as a real opportunity to blossom as an artist. One of her works, "Together for eternity", features in an important publication, the "Art Universal - The Great Encyclopedia of International Art," and she also had exposure in the press as well as magazines at an international level.
Artist Statement
Wendy Alber's paintings have a direct link with her country, Mauritius. With the Covid-19 travel restrictions since the beginning of the pandemic worldwide, she has not been able to fly back to her Motherland. This longing and not being able to see her parents again has been tremendously difficult and she could only voice out her feelings through her paintings, which calm her soul. Her works are a depiction of her inner self and her longing for her country. Through each brushstroke, she has the intimate feeling that she can touch her country again. She enjoys the use of vivid and contrasting colors and through her artworks, she makes an encounter with her other self who stayed somehow in Mauritius. She paints with her soul and feelings and her themes are mostly landscapes, seascapes as well as human figures, body parts, be it in a figurative, abstract, expressionism, naive, or in a symbolic approach… which makes her art not static. She also does abstract artworks where she paints mostly feelings. For her, showing her paintings is as if she was exposing part of her soul to the world. She says that if she can bring joy, peace of mind, and a positive mindset to the viewer through her artworks, she would consider herself lucky, happy, and complete.
