Eric Hubbes
Biography
Eric Hubbes – CV and Statement
I was born in London and spent my youth in Frankfurt and then in Köln. With a French mother and a German father, I speak these two languages fluently. After a year in Scotland at Glenalmond College, where I focused on fine arts, I speak English pretty well and knew at the time that art was my passion. But I first had to be sure because life as an artist is not the easiest way.
After graduating from high school, I was looking for a certificate and tried out geosciences with 3 successful semesters and mathematics before returning to art.
I then develop design and watercolour in Köln and acrylic painting in Bonn, from the Alanus Kunsthochschule. I decided to study Fine Ars at the School of Arts "HKU" in Utrecht. After 3 successful semesters I came back to Köln to go my own way, the university was too restrictive for my creativity.
Since then, I have been living and working in Köln and have been exhibiting mainly in Europe since 2017.
Artist Statement
Over time, I developed my personal style in which I related abstract and figurative painting. This also creates a play between geometric shapes and writing, which can be found in all my works. You could also think of these as fantastical worlds emerging from my subconscious. This idea arose mainly from the brooding that every person inclines to. My main concern is to reflect the questions and ambiguity of our time in my pictures.
The subconscious mind is what connects every human being. Suppose there is no coincidence and all events are subject to a cosmic order. As a result, art also speaks a language that everyone understands.
My pictures contain a variety of information that is related to each other. As a result, the viewer can discover different things. But it does not lead to any conclusion. As indecisive pondering may be, so are the conflicts of our time. But in the fantastic worlds that my pictures reflect, one can have hope that everything has a higher meaning
But not knowing the meaning is the mystical thing that I want to reproduce in my pictures. Because this drives us to live on and to want to discover every day anew.
