Biography
Gabriela Oravova is a contemporary artist working principally with photography, who is best known for her enigmatic black and white photographs. A Czech-Slovak born, based in Brussels, Belgium, she has lived in several countries and her photographic artworks have been awarded and exhibited in numerous international exhibitions, art fairs, photographic festivals and art galleries in Europe and in the USA.
She received her Master's degree diploma in Literature, Languages and Philology from Charles University, Faculty of Arts and Philosophy in Prague, the Czech Republic. Following her artistic vocation, she studied photography and immersed herself in the world of graphic arts and developed her individual style in the fields of fine art photography.
A sensitive observer of people, sensations and feelings, she has the natural gift of perception regarding the world and subtle situations around her. Exploring the boundaries of ordinary reality, she likes to challenge the idea of photography as a medium of real-world, and at the same time discover an illusionary alienation from the reality while revealing the infinite visions and possibilities, new ideas and insights as well as being comfortable with duality and ambiguity in order to look at things and situations from different perspectives. Her artwork is filled with symbolic and metaphorical meanings.
Gabriela Oravova’s artistic work bears witness to an acute observation of the reality with a visionary view discovering its deeper meaning and drawing our attention to the subtleties of a larger reality where the material world becomes relative, close to the surreal and is filled with a spiritual glow. She always tries to capture and look at people, situations and things holistically. There is a personal expression yet universal meaning to her artwork.
