What first prompted you to think of becoming an artist?
When I was a little kid, I would always notice my older cousin doing some sketching. It looked so interesting and fun to me that I decided to try it out and see if I could do it as well as her. At that time I wasn’t as good as her, but that didn’t stop me from picking up either a pencil or a crayon or a colored pencil or a marker and just drawing any and everything in sight.
What kind of an artist do you ultimately see yourself?
I paint and I draw, and I also do some digital work as well. I like to create portraits, cartoon art, and fan art also. But I ultimately see myself as an artist that does not limit myself to just working in one specific style.
What are you hoping to communicate to the viewer through your work?
If I create a piece that has a deep significance or a story behind it, my goal is to make sure that the viewer eventually understands what’s going on even if it takes observing it for a while. But in the end, I just want my pieces to be eye-catching to the viewer and fill them with a sense of interest.
Can you explain the process of creating your work?
Whenever I get a concept in my head or figure out what it is I want to create I almost picture exactly what I want the piece to look like in my head before I actually start working. Once I do start working I take my time, even though I am always very excited and look forward to finishing the piece because I know that that will benefit the quality of the piece rather than if I let my excitement get the best of me and rush through the process.
What is your favorite part of the creative process?
I love every part of the creative process. But applying color to a piece would be the most fun part for me.
Can you give us an insight into current projects and inspiration, or what we can look forward to from you in the near future?
I am currently creating a series of paintings relating to Black History to accompany some poems that I have written that are also on the subject of Black History. Other than that, I just plan on continuing to create and staying consistent while improving each and every day.
