Biography
Mauro Martin is an extremely versatile artist: drawing, painting and photography are among his fields of interest and they all have a crucial common feature, composition and structure. Artist Statement
My name is Mauro Martin and I was born in Pinerolo, in the North-West of Italy. After attending Art School I studied architecture at the Turin Polytechnic. I was a pupil of both Beppe De Valle and Raffaele Ponte Corvo's.
My work covers different aspects of the visual arts: painting, sculpture, photography and film-making.
I always apply the "less is more" minimalist principle to all of my works, which are characterized by compositional essentiality and structural rigour as well as being enhanced by the constant use of a rule of classical origin, widely employed during the Renaissance-the Golden section.
What first prompted you to think of becoming an artist?
Succeeding in being worthy of rephrasing the majesty of the Florentine Renaissance from a contemporary perspective.
What kind of an artist do you ultimately see yourself?
I would define myself as a “pencil”, a sort of tool “handled to make art”.
What are you hoping to communicate to the viewer through your work?
Art should help us to make our life better, it could be a reference point, albeit modest, to lift us above the daily humdrum.
Can you explain the process of creating your work?
I constantly lend an ear to what my sensitivity, my heart and mind hint at me, then I choose what to represent and how.
What is your favourite part of the creative process?
Revealing the depth of the human soul and the metaphysical essence of objects and feelings, while strictly following the minimalist motto “less is more”
Can you give us an insight into current projects and inspiration, or what we can look forward to from you in the near future?
I am working on a photography project that aims to further consolidate the use of natural light in order to obtain a tridimensional effect representing both the physical and inner beauty of the subjects portrayed.
