Biography
After graduating from the University I started working as a journalist in Budapest. Later on becoming Editor in Chief of the inflight magazine of the Hungarian Airlines I could travel quite extensively, thus managed to visit wonderful places around the world and meet interesting people that inspired me to a great extent.I began painting, attended some painting courses both in Hungary and Sweden. I paint in oil on canvas, mainly landscapes, but I love to capture eyes and faces, as well. I had solo exhibitions in Sweden, Israel and Hungary and participated in group shows in Austria, Belgium, Romania and Hungary. My paintings were purchased by collectors in Australia, USA, UK and some other countries.
Artist Statement
The nature of our Earth is wonderful, that we have to preserve for future generations, as well. Capturing one moment of this beauty by oil on canvas is my main task.
What first prompted you to think of becoming an artist?
Once when as a young mother I looked out of our window I was overwhelmed by the beautiful snowy landscape that right away inspired me to capture and paint this moment. We happened to stay in Stockholm that time when two of our three small kids were calmly sleeping in the afternoon, everything was so silent and peaceful that I realized that I have to put this great moment on my canvas.
What kind of an artist do you ultimately see yourself?
I consider myself indeed as a real artist of natural beauties whose heart and mind are very close to nature.
What are you hoping to communicate to the viewer through your work?
My major messages are as follows. You need to admire, love, protect and respect your surroundings. Our Earth created truly wonderful landscapes, oceans, rivers and meadows. It depends only on us, mankind to preserve these mighty resources and do our best to properly pass our heritage to our descendants.
Can you explain the process of creating your work?
Sometimes I do my paintings in the nature, in other times in my studio. As a matter of fact, I never draw a picture in advance, but start painting immediately with oil colours the selection of which very much depends on my personal feelings and my mood, of course. When I finish a picture I set it up in our living room for a few days in order to mentally accept it, or to modify until my full artistic satisfaction. It occurred 1-2 times, that I felt the need to repaint some details after a few weeks, because I had a feeling that the work needed to be improved further.
What is your favourite part of the creative process?
The best part of my painting is when I find a new subject and start thinking how to create it on a canvas. I imagine the full picture and try to place it on canvas in my thoughts. After this moment I begin to paint. There are some historical paintings from my nation’s own history originally painted by a Hungarian Master (Gyula Benczur) in the 19th century, which are very close to my heart. In order to bow before this Master’s work, during the pandemic I was allowed by the National Gallery to paint a copy of Benczur’s 2 great historical artistic creation last year. I was very enthusiastic and made them based on the on-line photos of the Gallery within 2 weeks each. It was not easy to display all details of 48 figures and horses on one picture, and to reproduce in my painting the original colours, the velvet and silk shades used by the Master. I’m really proud of these works.
Can you give us an insight into current projects and inspiration, or what we can look forward to from you in the near future?
I’m thinking right now of making a new historical painting inspired by the Hungarian National Opera titled „Bank ban” (Duke Bank).
