Biography

Vonne van der Meulen is a Dutch abstract artist, born 21 june 1958
Beside other activities, she started painting and drawing as an autodidact. Furthermore she followed model drawing lessons– including model drawing with a living model – and illustrative drawing and painting. Later on she studied Art Therapy at Academie De Wervel in The Netherlands, she studied drawing and painting at the Vrije Akademie de Leuwenburgh in Amsterdam and followed digital art lessons from Adele Sypesteyn.
For some time Vonne had a practice for art therapy. During this time, her own work was more in the background and she wasn’t focused on finishing her work, ready to be shown.
Her own work became more important in 2016, and she started to develop her own style. In the beginning, her work was both figurative and abstract. Gradually she began to focus more and more on working abstract, among which belong abstract landscapes.
Working with oil and cold wax influenced her way of working a lot, mostly concerning structure and working with layers. She is now mostly working with acryl mixed media.
She exhibited in Milan and her work is shown in the digital art magazine of
Gallery M& Art.

Artist Statement

How I work is influenced by my past work as an actress and director. My unwavering interest in developing myself personaly and the insights from that are of great importance for my work.
My work is an inner conversation with universal interfaces. I am inspired by movements, shapes and colors appearing in nature, and by the connection these aspects of nature make with experiences, feelings and the little things of daily life. In my art I try to elevate all this in an universal experienceable, not observable reality. I combine peaces of all mentioned elements in a new context, a world of its own, the composition of my work. This results in abstract landscapes or a total abstract artwork. I want to express a poetic point of view; not directly comprehensible, speaking from the experience, presenting an ambiance, though still leading somewhere. My work reflects tension and harmonie in the individu and between the world around, the power of imperfection, but also the beauty of life and nature. Since april 2020 I have been working on integrating geometric spaces and shapes in my work with sharp edges and lines. Nowadays it has become a part of my way of working.
